The GLP-1 Fiber & Hydration Calculator

Fiber without water backfires — especially in a gut your medication slowed on purpose. Enter your weight, your fiber, and your dose, and get a daily water target plus a per-dose minimum you can actually follow.

The chart behind the calculator

If you'd rather read than click, this is the whole logic. Per-dose water is what you drink with the fiber; the daily figure is your total beverage target from all sources.

Supplemental fiber Acacia — water per dose Psyllium — water per dose Daily total at 150 lb Daily total at 200 lb Daily total at 250 lb
3 g 8 oz 10 oz ~75 oz ~85 oz ~95 oz
5 g 8 oz 12 oz ~78 oz ~88 oz ~98 oz
7 g 10 oz 14 oz ~80 oz ~90 oz ~100 oz
10 g 12 oz 16+ oz ~85 oz ~95 oz ~105 oz

Two patterns worth noticing. Psyllium always demands more water than acacia at the same dose — that's the gel forming, and it's the mechanism behind most "fiber made it worse" stories. And the daily totals rise with body size but never drop below roughly 64 oz for anyone: that's the floor, not the target.

How the math works

Baseline. We start from a common planning heuristic — about half your body weight in ounces per day — kept inside the range of the National Academies' adequate-intake guidance for total beverages (roughly 91 oz of fluids for women and 125 oz for men per day, most of it from drinks). It's a planning number, not a prescription.

Fiber add-on. Soluble fiber holds water; gel-forming fiber holds a lot of it. Psyllium's own label directs taking each dose with at least 8 oz of liquid — we scale up from there with dose, and acacia needs less because it doesn't gel.

The GLP-1 adjustment. These medications slow gastric emptying — it's in their FDA prescribing information — and many people find thirst fades along with appetite. So the tool adds a margin and, more importantly, a schedule: on a GLP-1, water happens by plan, not by thirst.

What this tool is not. A medical device, a treatment, or a substitute for your prescriber. If your doctor has you on any fluid restriction — kidney disease, heart failure, or otherwise — follow them, not a web calculator. And no bowel movement for 7+ days, severe pain, vomiting, or blood in your stool is a call to your prescriber, today — the full escalation ladder is in our GLP-1 constipation guide.

Water is half the fix

The other half is what the water works on: soft, structured bulk from a fiber your slowed gut tolerates, plus magnesium to hold water in the colon. That pairing is the whole design of the GLPoop stick — 5 g of fiber (3.5 g of it acacia), plus magnesium citrate and electrolytes, once a day, dissolved in (conveniently) a glass of water. Which fiber fits which gut is the psyllium vs. acacia breakdown.
